Do you have a recipe for...

A'salaamu alaikum ya'll. I'm looking for a super-yummy recipe for an eggplant-yogurt dish I had a couple of Ramadhans ago. I'll try to explain it the best I can and insha'allah I'll get a delicious fast response. :-D

It was yogurt with slices of fried eggplant and had a really tasty oil (tarka?) poured on top. The tarka was kinda spicy but complemented the creamy yogurt perfectly. A sweet Pakistani sister made it and I tried to get the recipe but some of it was lost in translation.

So if anyone has a great recipe they would be willing to share, I would love you!!! Also some suggestions on what it is normally served with; I just ate it plain the day I helped the sister clean up. ;-)

If I get the recipe I will insha'Allah post it on here with a pic AND a link-back to your blog. Jazakum Allahu khair!

Salam sis. I *think* I know what you are talking about...my sister makes a killer eggplant dish. Cooks eggplants in an onion and tomato stew with spices like cayenne, turmeric, etc., and adds dollops of yogurt at the end. Does that sound about right?

I don't know about the tarka though. {btw, how cool is that that you know what tarka is?!}

HijabiMommy, your sister's dish sounds awesome! However the one I had was mainly yogurt (I don't think I wrote it right) and then had the tarka and fried eggplant on top.

I think I'll redo my post to reflect that. :-)

Oh, lol! My bad! Hmm...well the only other yogurt and eggplant dish I know is called "raita"...it's more like a side than an entrée...with fried eggplant and spices like cumin and black pepper mixed in with yogurt. But no tarka. LOL, still doesn't sound like the dish you are looking for. Hope you find it! :)
