A'salaamu alaikum ya'll. Aaminah says "'Alam alaikum" and I think its just too cute masha'allah. Wanted to share. Oh and when she says "quiet" it sounds a little like "carrot" so I've caught myself telling the older kids "be carrot!". Yeah, I get some strange looks on that one. :-) Well we pretty much all love that little curly-headed sweetie so her "aami-isms" tend to catch on.
Here is a quick synopsis of what I've learned this Ramadhan:
1. Any missed fasting days must be atoned for. If you cannot make them up, you must pay to feed one poor person for every day missed.
2. You do not have to pay them before the next Ramadhan if you are unable but you must keep track. I had to go back and be very lenient when trying to recount.
3. You can pay it overseas especially if there isn't true hunger in your area or you cannot afford it. For example, here it's about $8 per day. I have many days to make up for (due to my illness and ongoing inability to fast). I had incorrectly thought I wasn't responsible because I was very poor during those years. Alhamdulillah I have now learned but cannot afford to pay $$$ so I am able to send money overseas at the rate it is required there and insha'Allah help someone truly hungry!
4. There are 7 different ways to recite Qur'an. All are the same language, Fus'ha (classical Arabic) but just different pronounciations. So it's like "tomatoe" and "tomahtoe"; same meaning slightly different sound. None is more correct than another.
5. I have learned about several different sahaba. I actually need to post a story on Saad ibn abi Waqas insha'Allah. :-)
6. Now I know this will get some people excited but please bear with me. And know I am not trying to change anyone else's interpretation, just showing mine. Human sperm is not najasa. Nowhere in the Qur'an nor hadith/sunnah does it say this. Humans would not be made from filth; to me it's very self-evident.
Ma salaama...

The sweetest thing EVER
A'salaamu alaikum ya'll. Aaminah is getting to that age where she just says such cute things. Here is a conversation from the other day (for those who facebook me, it's de ja vu).
Me: Do you want to live in Tennessee?
Aami: No!
Me: Do you want to live in Massachusetts?
Aami: No!
Me: Where do you want to live?
Aami: I live with mama.
Masha'Allah!!!! She melts my heart wallah.
OK some more funny things:
Conversation with Hafsa (my oldest stepdaughter)
Hafsa: Is it haram to do that clicking things with glasses? (She motions with her hands like touching two drinking glass rims.)
Me: Oh you mean making a toast?
Hafsa: Yeah you know, when you say, "To Harry".
Me: What? To Harry? You mean, "to us"?
Hafsa: Yeah, to us.
Me: Where did Harry come from??? LOL
Another conversation with Hafsa, this one is unbelievable!
Hafsa: What was happening in America when the Prophet Muhammad (saws) was alive?
Me: (Thinking, oooh teachable moment initiated by kid!) Well Hafsa, what year would that have been?
Hafsa: Um...about 1920?
Me: ( Unable to speak for a moment.) Hafsa, Rasoolallah lived over 1400 years ago. That would be around 600 A.D.
Hafsa: Oh. (Silent for a minute.) So this was when the gladiators were fighting here?
Me: Hafsa, there were no gladiators here. That was in Rome.
Hafsa: But Rome is in America.
Me: No Rome isn't in America. Where is it?
Hafsa: Oh it's in Asia!
At this point I just kinda gave up. lol There was really no where for me to go with that one!
Okey dokey just a little light-hearted humor for ya'll!

"Mama sick...blechhh!"
These are little "multi-cultural baby" cupcakes my sister made for my babyshower for Aaminah. Yeah old picture but just wanted to share the cuteness!
A'salaamu alaikum ya'll. Unfortunately I have been ill enough during Aaminah's short life that she understands (as much as she can) what it means to be sick.
A was trying to explain my absence to her (when I was hospitalized in February) and he told her, Mama sick. So cute, she comes up with, "mama sick...blech!" Complete with open mouth and bending forward. Masha'Allah.. she makes us laugh every time with that.
Alhamdulillah I was in the hospital again but just for a day this time. I was released today and got home in time to relieve A (he had Aaminah all day and then trying to keep up with 4 kids after the bigger ones returned home!) I have the same resistant infection I have been battling since October.
Sisters, please make dua for me. We are trying to find out why I keep getting this infection. This time it's just a UTI but a couple of times it's been full-blown pyleonephritis (a true-blue kidney infection). AND in my transplant kidney no less!
Alhamdulillah, all things happen for a reason. Please make du'a that Allah heals me and keeps me at home with my family where I am needed.
Ma salaama...
